Rope and Sling Specialists Ltd. (RSS) has supplied critical rigging equipment for a Liebherr mobile crane, supporting the ongoing Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) West project in the UK.
The TRU is a multi-billion-pound initiative to enhance rail connections across the Pennines, spanning Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds, and York. The latest phase involves complex railway upgrades requiring frequent heavy lifts.
Recently, Mammoet deployed a 750t capacity Liebherr LTM1750-9.1 crane to install massive cill units and beams for the Span 29, Huddersfield phase. The lift included four 68t beams and a 115t cantilever beam, measuring 21.5m long, 2.1m wide, and 2.5m high.

RSS provided a 200t capacity MOD 110H spreader beam as part of the rigging system, along with high-capacity slings, bow shackles, master rings, chain blocks, and wire rope slings. These precision-engineered components ensured safe and efficient lifting over three consecutive nights.
Stephen Littler, regional manager at RSS, stated, “TRU West is a demanding infrastructure project that requires high-quality rigging solutions on tight deadlines. We are proud to contribute to such a vital railway enhancement.”
RSS recently named its Warrington facility Depot of the Year, with Littler earning Manager of the Year at the company’s inaugural awards gala in Swansea. “I was overwhelmed by the recognition,” he said. “It’s a testament to the dedication of our entire team.”
