The Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT) reached a milestone in its expansion efforts with the arrival of the Zhenhua 35 vessel in November. This shipment marks a crucial step forward, delivering essential equipment for the terminal’s expansion, including four Super Post-Panamax ZPMC Quay Cranes. These cranes, with a 72-meter boom outreach, are capable of handling twin 65-ton containers and heavy lifts up to 100 tons. Additionally, the shipment included six electric Rubber-Tyred Gantry (eRTG) cranes, designed with automation and remote-control technology.
SCCT CEO Keld Mosgaard Christensen expressed his satisfaction with the delivery, emphasizing that these new cranes are not just technological advancements but also a reflection of SCCT’s commitment to enhancing its capabilities. “This milestone represents our dedication to meeting the growing demands of the global shipping industry,” Christensen said. “It ensures we are ready to tackle current challenges and stay ahead in a rapidly evolving sector.”
The expansion project, a major investment in both the local and regional economies, also signifies SCCT’s dedication to the future of its employees, customers, stakeholders, and the surrounding communities. Project Director Pillarisetti Ravindranath highlighted that the expansion will further strengthen SCCT’s pivotal role in global trade. “This project stands as a testament to the dedication and hard work of the 3,500 professionals working at the terminal every day,” he stated.
