Longtime Konecranes customer Transped S.p.A., a key player in Italy’s bulk cargo sector, has ordered a Konecranes Gottwald Generation 6 mobile harbor crane to boost efficiency and capacity at the Venezia-Marghera port. The order, confirmed in Q4 2024, is slated for delivery in Q2 2025.

Part of the Italian FHP Group, Transped specializes in steel handling, managing over two million tons annually. As the leading port operator in Italy’s bulk sector, FHP Group handles approximately 10 million tons of cargo per year. Transped’s operations at Venezia-Marghera, a critical hub for northern Italy’s manufacturing industries, will now benefit from the advanced capabilities of the ESP.7 mobile harbor crane.

With decades of reliable service from a Generation 5 crane, Transped’s decision to upgrade to the Generation 6 model reflects its commitment to innovation and efficiency. “Transped handles more than two million tons of steel each year, so we need equipment that ensures precision, stability, and high lifting capacity over long periods. This latest generation crane will significantly enhance our efficiency across different types of steel cargo,” said Mauro Marchiori, Executive Director of Venice Terminals di Venezia at Transped.

The Konecranes Gottwald ESP.7 crane offers several advancements, including a higher crane classification for extended service life and an eco-efficient hybrid drive system. This system uses ultracapacitors to capture and reuse braking energy, reducing reliance on the onboard diesel engine, cutting fuel consumption, and lowering emissions.

Konecranes has a long history with Transped, and they’ve seen firsthand the consistent high performance of our cranes. The ESP.7 combines versatility and power, perfect for specialized steel handling in an industrial port environment,” said Gino Gherri, Regional Sales Manager at Konecranes.

This order aligns with Konecranes’ Ecolifting initiative, which seeks to enhance the environmental benefits of its products while reducing customers’ carbon footprints. Through innovations like hybrid and fully electric drive systems, Konecranes aims to advance sustainability in material handling.
