Genk Green Logistics’ New Port Infrastructure to Boost Reindustrialization and Job Creation

Rate this post

The new port infrastructure at the Genk Green Logistics facility in Limburg is set to drive reindustrialization and create local jobs. Located on the former Ford factory site, which once employed over 14,000 people, the facility now spans 250,000 square meters and benefits from access to the Albert Canal, enhancing logistical operations through barge transport.

Sarens was key to constructing the quay area, assembling two barge cranes. Utilizing advanced cranes such as the Liebherr LTM1150 and Demag AC700, Sarens overcame space constraints to complete the project on time. Luc De Meester, Sarens Project Manager, credited meticulous planning by Project Engineer Wietse Dockx and precise execution by Lifting Supervisor Michel Kreikaard for the success.

This port development supports the growth of Genk Green Logistics, which aims to revitalize the region’s industry with improved road, rail, and water connections. Sarens’ contribution adds to its extensive work in Belgium, including projects with Citrosuco and Cargill, further cementing its role in local economic development.
