The FPSO vessel for the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) Phase 1 LNG project has arrived at its final location offshore between Mauritania and Senegal. The vessel is being moored 40km offshore in 120m of water and will be operated by bp alongside partners Kosmos Energy, PETROSEN, and SMH. Built in China, the FPSO traveled over 12,000 nautical miles to reach the site.
Dave Campbell, bp’s senior VP for Mauritania and Senegal, emphasized the project’s importance in unlocking gas resources for the region. The GTA Phase 1 is expected to produce about 2.3 million tonnes of LNG annually for over 20 years and features Africa’s deepest subsea infrastructure at water depths up to 2,850m. Designated as a National Project of Strategic Importance, the FPSO will accommodate up to 140 people, process over 500 million cubic feet of gas daily, and transfer the processed gas to the Floating Liquified Natural Gas (FLNG) vessel for export and local use.
