ABB Appoints New Presidents for Electrification and Motion Business Areas

ABB has announced the appointments of Giampiero Frisio as President of its Electrification Business Area and Brandon Spencer as President of its Motion Business Area. Both executives will assume their new roles and join ABB’s Executive Committee on August 1, 2024.

CEO Björn Rosengren highlighted their proven leadership and success in driving profitable growth within ABB’s largest divisions. He emphasized the strength of ABB’s internal talent pool, expressing confidence that Frisio and Spencer will continue the strong performance in their respective areas.

CEO-designate Morten Wierod expressed excitement about working with both leaders in their new roles. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a robust Executive Committee to drive ABB’s financial and sustainability goals.

Giampiero Frisio

Giampiero Frisio, currently the Division President of Smart Power, has been with ABB since 1995, holding various managerial roles in operations, marketing, and sales. From January 2011 to November 2018, he was the Managing Director for the Protection and Connection Business Unit in Electrification Products. He holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Pavia University in Italy and is an Italian citizen. Frisio will succeed Morten Wierod, who will become ABB’s new CEO.

Brandon Spencer

Brandon Spencer, currently the Division President of Energy Industries within the Process Automation Business Area, joined ABB in 2006. He has held several leadership positions focusing on the energy sector. Between 2018 and 2020, Spencer served as Global Managing Director for ABB Process Industries. Prior to joining ABB, he held various roles at Siemens Power Generation. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Crummer School of Business at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. Spencer, a US citizen, will succeed Tarak Mehta, who is leaving ABB to become the CEO of Timken Group after more than 25 years with ABB.

These leadership changes are part of ABB’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its executive team and sustain its growth trajectory in key business areas.
