Drydocks World in Dubai recently hosted a steel cutting ceremony marking the commencement of the Norfolk Vanguard Offshore Wind Platforms project. Jointly undertaken with partners Aker Solutions and Siemens Energy, and in collaboration with RWE, the project involves constructing East and West HVDC Platforms over the next five years.

The Norfolk Vanguard West HVDC Platform, the initial phase of the project, aims to efficiently transmit electrical energy from offshore wind turbines to the mainland. Fabrication activities will be carried out at Drydocks World’s yard throughout the year.

Planned with a capacity of 1.4 GW each, the Norfolk Vanguard platforms will be situated in the southern North Sea, contributing significantly to the UK’s renewable energy goals.

Capt. Rado Antolovic, CEO of Drydocks World, expressed pride in the partnership and highlighted the company’s expertise in HVDC and HVAC platforms. This marks a significant step in their commitment to the renewable energy sector.

The project, initiated under pre-commitment agreements with Aker Solutions, underscores Drydocks World’s capabilities in executing major renewable energy projects. Fabrication responsibilities will be shared, with Aker Solutions handling substructure fabrication in Norway, while Drydocks World focuses on the topside fabrication in Dubai.

With a track record of successful delivery in the North Sea, including renowned projects like DolWin2 and BorWin3, Drydocks World brings invaluable experience to the Norfolk Vanguard initiative.
