Volvo Trucks has unveiled a new heavy-duty truck platform for North America alongside a new range for Europe, Australia, Asia, and Africa. The introduction of energy-efficient models, running on electricity and renewable fuels, aims to slash CO2 emissions, aligning with Volvo’s goal of achieving a net-zero emission product range by 2040.

President of Volvo Trucks, Roger Alm, describes the move as bold, introducing best-in-class trucks that set benchmarks for energy efficiency and CO2 reduction. The initiative represents a significant overhaul of Volvo Trucks’ heavy-duty offerings globally, emphasizing a commitment to reducing the carbon footprint across the product portfolio.

The new energy-efficient platform for North America promises a 10% reduction in fuel consumption and enhanced safety. It will serve as the foundation for upcoming models utilizing electric, renewable fuel, and combustion engine technologies. The first release is the Volvo VNL model, set to hit the North American market in late Q1 2024.

In Europe, Australia, Asia, and Africa, Volvo is launching the Volvo FH Aero, optimized for energy-efficient heavy-duty transport. The aerodynamic FH model reduces energy consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 5% and offers propulsion options, including electric, biogas, and diesel. Market rollouts are planned throughout 2024 and 2025, with sales starting in Q1 2024.

Volvo Trucks emphasizes a global commitment to sustainability, offering a diverse range of decarbonization solutions, from efficient combustion engines to electric powertrains. This launch also includes Volvo’s first battery-electric model designed for city transport, expanding their electric offering from six to eight models, covering various transport needs worldwide.
