Finnish stevedoring company Steveco Oy has enhanced its cargo handling capabilities with the introduction of the Generation 6 Konecranes Gottwald ESP.8 Mobile Harbor Crane at their RoRo terminal in HaminaKotka, southern Finland. The modernization initiative aims to increase efficiency, handling capacity, and operational flexibility.

Situated in the vital transport hub of the Baltic Sea region, Steveco’s Hietanen terminal plays a crucial role in maintaining high service standards for customers. The new mobile harbor crane, known for its adaptability and high performance, primarily handles containers while also managing general and heavy project cargo.

Jukka Muuri, Foreman, Technical Staff, Steveco, expressed the positive impact of the crane on RoRo capacity, citing its geometry, ergonomics, and impressive productivity. The Generation 6 Konecranes Gottwald ESP.8 Mobile Harbor Crane has a working radius of up to 54m and a maximum capacity of 125t, catering to container ships up to Panamax class. Its design is particularly suited for RoRo vessels with high ship sides, offering efficient container handling with a focus on operator visibility.

Hans-Jürgen Schneider, Regional Sales Manager, Port Solutions, Konecranes, highlighted the strong partnership with Steveco, emphasizing the company’s commitment to supporting growth through high-performance and reliable crane solutions.

Powered by a hybrid drive, the crane features an EU Stage V diesel engine combined with ultracapacitors, providing additional power for heavy lifts. The hybrid system efficiently refills ultracapacitors through the collection of lowering and braking energy.
