Golar Selects 177,427cbm LNG Carrier for Fourth FLNG

Golar LNG is acquiring the 177,427cbm LNG carrier Grace Dahlia from NYK Line for conversion into its fourth floating LNG unit, expanding its FLNG development programme with a larger storage platform.

Built in 2013, Grace Dahlia will be converted into FLNG #4 following the order placed by Golar on 12 August 2026.

The vessel offers approximately 20% more LNG storage capacity than the 3.5MTPA FLNG Esperanza, which is currently under construction. Golar said the additional capacity will provide future customers with greater flexibility for LNG offloading while retaining the advantages of its repeat MKII FLNG design.

Conversion work will take place at CIMC Raffles’ Yantai shipyard in China, where FLNG #4 will be developed alongside Esperanza.

Using an existing LNG carrier as the conversion platform enables Golar to expand its floating liquefaction fleet while maintaining a standardised design approach across successive projects.

The company expects FLNG #4 to be redelivered in 2029 and describes the unit as the earliest available new FLNG capacity currently planned for the market.

The project adds another major vessel conversion to Golar’s offshore LNG portfolio and will involve transforming the former LNG carrier into a floating liquefaction and export facility for deployment on a future gas development.
