Royal Wagenborg has selected De Boer Marine for a multiyear digital upgrade covering around 160 owned and managed general cargo vessels.

The phased programme will integrate onboard IT infrastructure, communications, connectivity and cybersecurity, with the aim of strengthening ship-to-shore communications and providing more reliable internet access for crews.

Connectivity will combine Starlink, OneWeb, Ku-band VSAT, Iridium Certus and 5G for vessels operating worldwide. De Boer Marine will also upgrade onboard network hardware and remote support systems, alongside cybersecurity measures including firewalling, intrusion prevention, endpoint management and secure remote access.

Digitalisation is an important enabler of our strategy to provide reliable, safe and sustainable maritime services,” said Theo Klimp, Fleet Director at Royal Wagenborg Shipping. “We need technology partners who understand both the opportunities and the complexities of our business.”

Meindert-Jan de Boer, CEO of De Boer Marine, added: “This is a substantial programme that brings connectivity, IT and cybersecurity together in one integrated approach.

The rollout will provide Wagenborg with a more integrated and scalable digital infrastructure as connectivity and cybersecurity become increasingly important to day-to-day vessel operations.
