Rope and Sling Specialists Ltd. (RSS) has expanded its training portfolio with the launch of a new overhead crane programme under the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) Accredited Training Scheme (ATS).
The two-day course, Overhead Travelling Crane (Operating and Slinging), will be delivered through the RSS Training Academy and will run for the first time in March. Limited to four participants per session, the course is designed to provide focused, hands-on instruction in crane operation and safe slinging practices.
RSS supplies a comprehensive range of lifting and rigging equipment, including blocks, shackles, hooks, slings and harnesses, to major UK infrastructure projects and blue-chip companies. All equipment is subject to periodic examination in accordance with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER). In addition to hardware, the company offers live365 digitalisation and compliance technology to support safe lifting operations.
As a longstanding member of LEEA’s ATS, RSS delivers end-user training that meets strict quality standards. ATS accreditation is granted only to companies that demonstrate high standards in course design, qualified instructors and suitable training facilities.
The new course is aimed at crane operators and prospective operators responsible for overhead travelling cranes, as well as slingers, riggers, supervisors and safety managers overseeing lifting operations. It covers key legislative frameworks including LOLER, the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) and the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. Delegates will gain an understanding of crane types and functions, pre-use inspections, correct slinging techniques, effective communication methods and risk mitigation during lifting activities.
Andy Hawkins, training manager at RSS, said achieving ATS status is an important endorsement of the course. He added that limiting attendance enhances safety during practical exercises and allows instructors to maintain close supervision.
The addition of the programme brings the RSS Training Academy’s portfolio to seven courses, four of which now hold LEEA ATS accreditation, reinforcing the company’s commitment to high-quality, safety-focused training.
