A major construction project is transforming the Karlsstraße area in Ulm, where 142 new residential units, an underground car park, and a supermarket are taking shape against the backdrop of the city’s iconic Ulm Muenster. To ensure efficient progress on the 4,500 m² site, construction teams are relying on two Liebherr EC-B Flat-Top tower cranes supplied by Nagel Baumaschinen Ulm GmbH.

Given the limited space on site, the 370 EC-B 16 Fibre and 202 EC-B 10 Litronic were selected for their compact design, high performance, and cutting-edge technology. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025.

The 370 EC-B 16 Fibre, mounted on a portal, boasts a 55-metre radius and a hook height of 53.5 metres. Featuring Liebherr’s innovative fibre rope technology, it delivers up to 40% higher peak loads and a service life up to four times longer than cranes with steel ropes. The fibre rope’s protective outer layer shields it from wear and damage, while its modular design allows for quick on-site repairs—ensuring minimal downtime.

Supporting the Fibre model, the 202 EC-B 10 Litronic operates with a 45-metre radius and a 48-metre hook height. Its compact upper carriage integrates the slewing gear, switchgear, and slewing ring into one unit, simplifying transport and assembly—an ideal solution for space-restricted urban sites.

Nagel Baumaschinen Ulm GmbH, Liebherr’s long-standing partner, is providing both cranes from its rental fleet. “We supported the client from logistics to crane assembly, tailoring every detail to the project’s needs,” a Nagel spokesperson said.
