On the historic Ulmenstraße campus of the University of Rostock, construction is underway on the new “ULMICUM” complex, which will include a library, seminar centre, administration offices and institute facilities. To ensure the structural works are completed on time, contractor Riedel Bau AG is relying on two Liebherr 340 EC-B Flat-Top tower cranes.

The project, which began in June 2024 and is scheduled to complete structural works by 2026, demands reliable technology and precise operation due to its location near listed buildings and railway tracks. The Liebherr cranes, equipped with hook heights and jib lengths adapted to site requirements, are supporting all stages of construction—from unloading trucks to positioning wall formwork and prefabricated sections with millimetre accuracy.

The EC-B series cranes stand out for their rapid assembly, high lifting capacities, and ease of access for operation and maintenance. Liebherr’s working range limitation system is also being used to safeguard neighbouring historic structures.

For this project, Riedel Bau AG is working closely with Liebherr service partner Beutlhauser. “We expect short response times, competent troubleshooting, and expert advice in challenging assembly and dismantling situations,” the company explained, emphasizing the importance of strong local service support.

The two Liebherr cranes will remain on site until at least mid-2027, ensuring efficient material handling and safe execution of the demanding interior and facade works.
