Damen Marine Components (DMC) has signed contracts to supply rudders, steering gear, and nozzles for two major newbuilding projects in India, covering a total of 14 multi-purpose vessels (MPVs). The ships are under construction at Udupi Cochin Shipyard (UCSL) and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, with both end clients opting for DMC equipment.

The first project involves eight 6,300 DWT MPVs at UCSL for a Scandinavian customer. This marks DMC’s first order with the yard, part of Cochin Shipyard Ltd. The company will deliver piston-type steering gear and Atlantic-type rudders, tailored to the vessel design. All equipment will be produced at DMC Jiangyin in China.

We have been active in India for 20 years and growing our footprint with this project makes us very proud,” said Bogdan Mocanu, DMC Sales Manager. It shows our ability to work worldwide, tailoring our in-house designs to client needs.”

The second project covers six 7,500 DWT MPVs for Danish shipowner Navi Merchants, under construction at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders in Mumbai. DMC’s scope includes Atlantic-type rudders, piston-type steering gear, and propeller nozzles. Steering gear will be supplied from the Netherlands, while rudders and nozzles will be manufactured in Poland.

“This contract is a milestone for DMC in the Indian maritime market,” Mocanu said. “We are proud to support Navi Merchants and collaborate for the first time with Mazagon Dock, a shipyard known for its high standards.”

Deliveries are scheduled to begin later this year.
