Hack Schwerlastservice GmbH has added a major new asset to its crane fleet with the recent acquisition of a Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1. The 700-tonne mobile crane is now the most powerful in the Neuwied-based company’s lineup.
With high demand for heavy lifting solutions across Germany, Hack Schwerlastservice prioritized rapid availability over waiting for a new unit. The company opted for a modern, low-hours used LTM 1650-8.1, sourced directly from Liebherr. “The LTM 1650-8.1 is the most compact and powerful 700-tonne mobile crane on eight axles in the market,” explained company owner Udo Hack. “Given the volume of high-capacity lifting projects we handle, we needed the machine without delay. Liebherr’s prompt delivery of a nearly new unit made our decision easy, and it has already proven its value.”

The crane was immediately put to the test in Wetzlar, where it was tasked with dismantling a century-old pedestrian bridge over the River Lahn in the Naunheim district. Built in 1906, the steel structure had become outdated and unsafe. The LTM 1650-8.1 was equipped with 155 tonnes of counterweight and successfully lifted the 27.5-tonne, 50-metre-long bridge with ease—demonstrating its capability to lift up to 42 tonnes at a 35.8-metre radius.
Crane operator Gerhard Mees praised the new addition to the fleet: “The crane is as strong as an ox but its controls are as sensitive as a racehorse. Setup was quick, and the entire lift was executed flawlessly.”

The LTM 1650-8.1’s flexible boom configurations make it a valuable addition for Hack’s wide-ranging operations. The company plans to deploy the crane across various projects, including bridge construction, wind turbine assembly and maintenance, ship loading at ports, and handling heavy precast concrete components.
Hack Schwerlastservice GmbH operates a broad service portfolio across Germany, with branches spanning from Düsseldorf and the Eifel to Westerwald and Frankfurt.
