Dominican crane and heavy haulage company Grupo Modesto, S.A. has strengthened its fleet with the acquisition of two new Liebherr mobile cranes, the LTM 1150-5.3 and LTM 1230-5.1. These machines will be deployed primarily for industrial construction projects in the metropolitan region of Santo Domingo.
Grupo Modesto is breaking new ground as one of the first crane hire companies in the Dominican Republic to invest in brand-new Liebherr cranes, a rarity in a market traditionally dominated by used equipment. “Economic growth in our country has increased demand for cranes with capacities between 150 and 230 tonnes. These new Liebherr models provide the versatility we need, even for larger projects,” said José Roberto Modesto, Vice-President of Grupo Modesto.

Equipped with advanced features, including the VarioBase support system and VarioBallast®, the cranes are designed for maximum safety and efficiency, even in restricted spaces. “The second winch was a decisive factor, allowing us to work in dual-hook mode. Liebherr’s excellent service and customer focus also played a key role in our decision,” Modesto added.
The new cranes were immediately put to work at the Port of Santo Domingo, dismantling an aging harbour crane. The LTM 1150-5.3, fitted with 29 tonnes of ballast, lifted workers in a basket to detach the structure, while the LTM 1230-5.1, using 42 tonnes of ballast, handled the heaviest components, including a 6-tonne section at a height of 75 metres. The project was completed in eight days.
Founded in 1975, Grupo Modesto is the Dominican Republic’s first crane rental company and one of its oldest construction firms, offering services in prefabrication and heavy transport. Today, it operates 20 cranes ranging from 5 to 350 tonnes and employs around 50 people.
