Power2X and Advario are partnering to develop Europe’s largest production and storage hub for sustainable aviation fuel (e-SAF) and ultra-low carbon synthetic fuels at the Port of Rotterdam. The facility will produce over 250,000 tonnes of e-SAF annually, enough to power 7,000 transatlantic flights from Amsterdam to New York.
Power2X will produce e-SAF using green methanol sourced from regions with abundant renewable energy. Advario will create a state-of-the-art storage facility with a capacity of 230,000 cubic meters, supported by marine and rail infrastructure. The hub’s strategic location in Rotterdam offers easy access to European airports, making it a key distribution center for sustainable fuels.
The project will contribute 40% of the required e-SAF volume by 2030, supporting Europe’s decarbonization goals. Occo Roelofsen, CEO of Power2X, called the project a game-changer for global e-SAF production, while Advario CEO Bas Verkooijen emphasized its role in the energy transition.
