Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has created a new solution to convert the L120 wheel loader to electric in order to meet the growing demand for sustainable solutions in the mid-size range. The 20-ton L120H Electric Conversion was developed in partnership with Parker Hannifin and Volvo Group’s own CE Engineering Solutions.
The converted electric model will provide the same performance as the conventional machine, but with the added benefit of being emission-free. The L120H Electric Conversion will be available to selected European customers in 2023. Volvo CE has partnered with CE Engineering Solutions and other electromobility partners to accelerate the availability of commercialized electric solutions across all segments and applications. This partnership approach enables faster implementation in the market and is part of Volvo CE’s commitment to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.
The L120H Electric Conversion is powered by 240 kWh batteries and offers a runtime of around five hours in most medium-duty applications. It can be charged from 0-100% in 1.5-2 hours using Volvo’s existing charging solutions. The electric conversion comes with standard features such as Comfort Drive Control, Load Assist with On-Board Weighing, and radar detection with a new Collision Mitigation System.
Additionally, the L120H Electric Conversion will be supported by dedicated electromobility applications that allow the operator to check battery and charging status and to preheat the cab. The L120H Electric Conversion will offer a new business model that makes it easy for customers to switch to electric, and depending on market demand, there is the possibility to convert existing customers’ L120H wheel loaders to electric in the future.
