Operaciones Portuarias Canarias S.A. (OPCSA) has ordered four additional diesel-hybrid RTG cranes from Konecranes for the Port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, continuing its fleet modernisation programme.
The order, booked in Q1 2026 with delivery scheduled for Q4 2026, follows OPCSA’s 2025 investment in eight identical units. Once delivered, the terminal will operate a total of 18 Konecranes RTGs, strengthening its capacity to handle growing container volumes across the Canary Islands and wider Atlantic trade routes.
The hybrid cranes are designed to improve efficiency and reduce emissions by capturing and reusing energy generated during lifting operations. This results in lower fuel consumption and operating costs compared to conventional diesel-powered RTGs.
“Konecranes Hybrid RTGs give us exactly what we need in the yard: strong lifting performance, better energy efficiency and lower operating costs,” said Javier Zurita Ramírez, Project Manager at OPCSA. “Expanding our fleet with the same technology is a natural next step.”
In addition to efficiency gains, the new units are equipped with advanced safety features, including an Anti-Truck Lift Prevention System and a gas-based fire prevention system, enhancing protection for both equipment and cargo.
The agreement also builds on a five-year service contract signed in 2025 with Konecranes Port Services, reinforcing a long-term partnership between the two companies.
“This is a practical step toward lower emissions without compromising performance,” added Darryn Scheepers, EMEA Regional Sales Director at Konecranes.
