Collett delivers turbines to Dragon LNG

Rate this post

Collett has completed the delivery of three Enercon E 138 wind turbines to the Dragon LNG facility in Wales, marking a key step in reducing emissions at the site. Once operational, the turbines will generate renewable power for the terminal, complementing the existing solar park and improving energy resilience.

The project involved transporting 39 turbine components along with 12 containers of supporting equipment. Each turbine consisted of blades, tower sections, nacelle and hub elements, moved using specialised transport including super wing carriers and tower clamp trailers. The longest blades measured 68 metres, while the heaviest tower section weighed 73 tonnes.

All components arrived via the Port of Pembroke before being transported seven miles to the site through a constrained and busy road network. Deliveries were carefully scheduled in coordination with local authorities and police to minimise disruption. Extensive preparation included route surveys, swept path analysis and infrastructure adjustments such as temporary road widening and bridge assessments to ensure safe transport.

Each movement was supported by an 11 person team including drivers, escorts and project management. Deliveries were carried out twice daily to maintain efficiency while avoiding peak traffic periods.

Collett said the project demonstrated its ability to manage complex wind logistics in built up environments and high security industrial locations. Stakeholders including Enercon and Dragon Energy praised the collaboration and precision involved, highlighting the role of specialist transport expertise in enabling renewable energy deployment in challenging industrial settings.
