Raimondi cranes build Irish hospital

Irish Crane and Lifting has deployed two Raimondi tower cranes on a major hospital expansion project in Ireland, reinforcing its role in supporting critical infrastructure developments across the country.

The company, Raimondi’s official agent for Ireland, installed one MRT234 and one MRT294 at the University Hospital Limerick campus as part of a wider three phase redevelopment programme designed to expand and modernise healthcare facilities to meet rising regional demand.

The MRT234 had already been used during the first phase of the project, which delivered a four storey block with 96 additional beds. As construction moved into the second phase, the crane was repositioned onsite in the third quarter of 2025. It now operates freestanding at 41 metres with a 55 metre jib and a 4.2 tonne tip load.

Working alongside it, the newly erected MRT294 reaches 60.5 metres in height and features a 70 metre jib with a 3.5 tonne tip load. Both cranes are expected to remain in their current configurations throughout the build.

According to Irish Crane and Lifting, the combination of the two flat tops provides the reach and flexibility required for a complex site located next to an operational hospital. Installation required detailed planning due to restricted space and the need to keep a nearby public road open. A 450 tonne mobile crane was used to complete the erection safely.

The cranes are expected to remain onsite for around 18 months as the development progresses. Irish Crane and Lifting operates more than 60 Raimondi cranes across Ireland and continues to support major infrastructure and construction projects nationwide.
