BigLift Shipping marked a major milestone with the launch of the first vessel in its new BC Class module carrier series, reinforcing its ongoing fleet expansion programme.
The vessel, CY Frontier, was launched on 15 February and will now move to the outfitting quay for final completion and commissioning. It is the first of four BC Class newbuilds designed to strengthen BigLift’s heavy transport capabilities.
A second vessel, BigLift Pioneer, is expected to enter service later this year. By the end of 2026, the company plans to operate six heavy transport vessels, significantly increasing capacity for complex heavy lift and project cargo operations worldwide.
The BC Class ships are designed for flexibility and performance, each measuring 180 metres in length with a beam of 43 metres. The vessels offer an unobstructed cargo deck of around 6,020 square metres, allowing loading and discharge via stern or side using ro ro or skidding methods.
With a depth of 12 metres and a deadweight capacity of 25,000 tonnes, the vessels are equipped with a high capacity ballast system capable of handling 12,000 cubic metres per hour. The design is intended to support demanding heavy transport projects requiring stability, flexibility and efficient cargo handling.
BigLift said the launch represents an important milestone in its strategy to expand its engineered transport fleet and reinforce its position in the global heavy lift shipping market.
