France sees first FlexMAX wind tower transport with STEX

Rate this post

French transport company STEX has achieved a new milestone in heavy and special transport with the commissioning of a Faymonville FlexMAX 4+7 self-steering combination equipped with tower adapters. This configuration marks a first in France and expands possibilities for handling demanding wind energy projects.

The FlexMAX 4+7’s self-steering system allows precise maneuvering through curves and challenging terrains, while the specially designed tower adapters provide a vertical stroke of approximately 1,800 mm. This enables efficient compensation for road irregularities and supports autonomous loading and unloading of wind turbine tower sections.

Safety and operator comfort are key features of the combination. Its 7-axle rear self-steering unit with hydraulic suspension ensures convoy stability while easing the crossing of obstacles and side slopes. The system also incorporates a double-redundant steering mechanism, enhancing handling ease and overall operational safety.

By integrating this advanced configuration into its fleet, STEX reinforces its capacity to meet the increasing logistical demands of renewable energy projects. The project’s success was supported by close collaboration with technical and commercial partner Berroyer and Faymonville’s product management team, ensuring tailored solutions for the specific challenges of wind tower transport.
