Rope and Sling Specialists Ltd. (RSS) has been appointed the sole UK distributor for The Buddie System, a wireless emergency alert device designed to improve safety during lifting operations.
The system provides an instant back-up to traditional communication methods such as two-way radios. If a slinger or rigger pulls a breakaway clip attached to a lanyard, an alarm immediately sounds in the crane cab, signalling the operator to stop the lift.
Developed in Australia, The Buddie System was conceived after an incident in which radio interference prevented communication between a rigger and crane operator, nearly resulting in serious injury. Its simple activation — “Snap. Alert. Stop.” — delivers a fast, clear warning when workers below-the-hook face danger.
RSS supplies a broad range of lifting and rigging equipment, from shackles and hooks to slings and harnesses, alongside live365 digitalisation and compliance technology. Its products support major UK infrastructure projects and are maintained under Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) inspection standards.
The Buddie System is suited to a wide variety of applications, including construction, high-rise projects, and indoor or outdoor sites using overhead travelling or gantry cranes. It can transmit signals over distances of more than 1,000 metres, ensuring operators remain connected even when workers are out of sight.
A single crane unit can pair with up to 10 lanyards, and multiple systems can operate on one site. Each kit includes the crane device, aerial, mounting options, charging accessories, and user manual. The product is now available nationwide through RSS’s depot network.
