Four Liebherr 280 HC-L luffing jib cranes are playing a central role in the construction of the landmark Triangle project in the heart of Paris. Rising to 180 metres, the Triangle will become the third-tallest building in the French capital and a striking addition to its skyline.

The cranes are being deployed by French crane specialist HEXAGone Services, working alongside construction group BESIX. Two of the four Liebherr 280 HC-L cranes are mounted on portal bases and will climb externally along the pyramid-shaped structure, an ideal solution for the site’s confined footprint and complex geometry. These units will reach hook heights of up to 187 metres and 152 metres. The remaining two cranes are installed on foundation anchors, with tower heights of 85.5 and 95.7 metres.

With a maximum lifting capacity of 28 tonnes and a compact slewing radius of just 7.5 metres, the 280 HC-L cranes are particularly well suited to dense urban environments. Their reduced out-of-service position and efficient climbing technology are key advantages on a site surrounded by existing buildings.

Designed by Herzog & de Meuron, the Triangle will house offices, co-working spaces, a hotel, shops, cultural facilities, and community services. The project also emphasises sustainability, integrating energy-efficient systems, renewable energy sources, and low-carbon mobility solutions.
