GEDA Platform in Use at Perlachturm Renovation

Rate this post

A major renovation is underway at one of Augsburg’s most recognisable landmarks, the historic Perlachturm, with vertical access and logistics supported by advanced transport technology from GEDA.

Located on Augsburg’s town hall square, the approximately 70-metre-high Perlachturm dates back to the 10th century and has been rebuilt several times over the centuries. Today, it remains a defining symbol of the city’s architectural heritage. To preserve the structure for future generations, extensive refurbishment works are being carried out, including the removal of the tower’s copper dome, weighing around ten tonnes. The dome has been carefully dismantled and temporarily placed in front of the town hall, while the internal reinforced concrete staircase is being progressively removed to allow for a modern replacement.

Central to the project’s success is the use of the GEDA 1500 Z/ZP transport platform, which provides a shared vertical transport solution for all trades on site. Installed to a height of 70 metres with 27 stopping points, the system is precisely configured to meet the demands of this complex heritage renovation.

The GEDA 1500 Z/ZP combines the functions of a material hoist and a transport platform for personnel and materials. In personnel mode, it operates at a lifting speed of 12 m/min, while material-only transport can be carried out at up to 24 m/min, maximising efficiency on site. Using platform variant A, the two-mast system with the GEDA UNI-X mast offers smooth, stable operation and a load capacity of up to 2,000 kg—an essential requirement when handling heavy and bulky materials at height on a historic structure.
