JSC RIKON has shipped the first of three fully automated A-RMG (Automated Rail Mounted Gantry) cranes to the new Madrid-Vicálvaro Intermodal Terminal in Spain. The cranes are being supplied to ADIF, the Spanish state-owned company responsible for the national railway infrastructure.
The A-RMG cranes mark a new milestone in container handling automation. Each unit features unmanned operation supported by the RIKON Remote Operation System (RROS), which allows full remote control and monitoring. With a lifting capacity of 40 tonnes, a 36-metre span, and a 14.3-metre cantilever, the cranes combine precision, power, and advanced safety systems to meet the demands of next-generation intermodal logistics.
The Madrid-Vicálvaro Intermodal Terminal, currently under construction, represents a major investment in Spain’s logistics network. With a project value exceeding €300 million, the facility will serve as a key hub in central Spain, connecting the Mediterranean and Atlantic rail corridors. Once operational in 2026, it is expected to handle up to 150,000 intermodal units per year, improving efficiency and connectivity between Spain’s main ports and inland destinations.
This shipment reflects RIKON’s growing presence in Europe, following the company’s recent projects in Valencia and other major terminals across the continent. By providing advanced automation technology for Madrid-Vicálvaro, RIKON enables ADIF to achieve higher operational efficiency from the outset while maintaining the highest standards of safety and reliability.
