VDL Container Systems, a Dutch manufacturer of demountable container handling systems and spreaders, has enhanced operator safety by integrating remote controls from Tele Radio into its equipment portfolio.
With more than 25 years in the industry, VDL serves customers worldwide and leads the Benelux market with products including hooklifts, chain systems, cable systems, and skip loaders. To improve loading and unloading safety, the company sought a solution that addressed visibility, precision, and reliability.
“Cab-based controls often restrict sight lines, making it hard for operators to judge swing radius or tip risk,” explained Paul van der Loo, Product Manager at VDL Container Systems. “We needed technology that offered proportional precision and secure, uninterrupted performance.”

After evaluating the market, VDL adopted Tele Radio’s Tiger T14-7 and T15-7 transmitters. Certified to SIL3 and PLe standards, Tiger offers frequency-hopping technology, IP65/66 protection, and a working range of up to 1,000m. The pressure-sensitive push buttons allow millimetre-level proportionality, ensuring smooth hydraulic control without jolting loads—a critical factor in preventing accidents such as vehicle rollover.
Operators can also step away from hazardous zones, whether working near industrial ovens, in freezing Nordic yards, or amidst heavy traffic. “Tele Radio provides both the connection and precision we require,” van der Loo said.
By improving safety across industries from mining to construction, VDL’s partnership with Tele Radio marks a significant step in container handling innovation. “They listened closely to our needs, making them a great partner for today and the future,” van der Loo added.
