At the birthplace in Ehingen, Liebherr cranes carried out major assembly hall upgrades this August, supported by the Schmidbauer Group. An LTC 1045-3.1 compact crane arrived from Schmidbauer’s Memmingen branch, while Rieger & Moser – part of the Schmidbauer Group – provided an LTM 1110-5.1 and an LTM 1130-5.1 from Ulm. Together, the three mobile cranes dismantled five ageing overhead cranes and installed five new double-girder travelling cranes with lifting capacities between 40 and 63 tonnes.
The work was scheduled during the company holiday to avoid production downtime. With spans of 28 metres and dead weights up to 41 tonnes, the overhead cranes presented logistical and spatial challenges. Limited hall space required precision manoeuvres, supported by angled assembly jibs and Liebherr’s sensitive control systems. The LTC 1045-3.1 dismantled trolleys and hoists, the LTM 1110-5.1 removed the old girders, and the LTM 1130-5.1 lifted the new girders into place with centimetre accuracy.

This operation comes as Rieger & Moser marks its 80th anniversary in 2025. Founded in 1945 as an automotive workshop, the company has evolved into a trusted partner in industry, construction, and infrastructure, now operating as part of the Schmidbauer Group.

A celebratory event in September will bring together employees, families, customers, and partners. Under the motto “80 years: Strong from the region. Connected to the future.” the company will honour its history while looking ahead to future developments.
