bp Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) and EOG Resources Trinidad Ltd have achieved first gas from Mento, a key joint venture gas development located off Trinidad’s southeast coast. The project is a 50/50 partnership, with EOG serving as the operator.
Mento is among bp’s 10 major global projects scheduled to start up between 2025 and 2027, contributing to an anticipated combined peak net production of 250,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed). The facility features a 12-slot, attended platform, built at the TOFCO fabrication yard in La Brea, Trinidad.
“This is our second start-up this year, and a clear example of the power of collaboration,” said David Campbell, president of bpTT. “Together with EOG, we’re delivering much-needed gas and progressing well on our next venture — the Coconut project, expected to come online in 2027.”
Mento follows previous successful bpTT/EOG developments: EMZ (2011), Sercan (2016), and Banyan (2017). The ongoing Coconut project will follow a similar joint venture model.
bpTT, a company jointly owned by bp (70%) and Repsol (30%), is a major player in Trinidad and Tobago’s energy sector. It currently operates 12 offshore platforms, three subsea installations, and two onshore processing facilities.
