Konecranes is finalizing the delivery of four self-powered portal jib cranes to the U.S. Navy in Washington State, fulfilling a contract signed in 2017. Two 25-ton jib cranes were successfully installed at the Navy’s Bangor pier in Q1 2024, with the remaining two scheduled for delivery to Bremerton by June 2025.

Manufactured in Waukesha, Wisconsin, the cranes are designed to support critical equipment handling operations at both naval bases. At Bangor, they replace aging infrastructure, enhancing safety and reliability. At Bremerton, the cranes will expand the base’s operational capacity as additions to the existing fleet.

Both the Navy Base and Konecranes are delighted to see the jibs delivered to their new homes,” said Steven Waisanen, Vice President of Nuclear Equipment & Services at Konecranes. With the first two jibs accepted and the final pair entering inspection and testing, we are all motivated to bring this project successfully to its final conclusion.”

Engineered to meet U.S. Navy-specific operational and safety standards, the cranes are built for high-duty performance and feature modern safety systems for efficient operation. Their self-powered design allows for barge-to-land transport via Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs), ensuring flexible and secure installation at the piers.
