Iquique Terminal Internacional S.A. (ITI), part of SAAM Terminals, has ordered a Konecranes Gottwald ESP.10, the largest mobile harbor crane in the Konecranes portfolio, to handle container operations for super-post Panamax vessels. Signed in Q3 2024, the deal marks a major step in ITI’s growth strategy, with crane delivery expected in April 2025.
Super-post Panamax vessels, among the world’s largest container ships, require advanced crane capabilities to handle containers stacked nine high and 22 across. To meet these demands, ITI selected a customized ESP.10 crane featuring a 10-meter tower extension, enabling it to reach the 22nd container row and nine-high stacks. Operators will benefit from a 43-meter-high tower cab and elevator access, improving safety and visibility.
“This Generation 6 Konecranes Gottwald crane will significantly boost our ability to serve super-post Panamax vessels. We’re excited to expand our fleet with technology we trust,” said Rodrigo Pommiez Aravena, General Manager of ITI.
The crane will be equipped with two telescopic twin-lift spreaders, rotating spreader control, and motor grabs for bulk handling. Operational data will be accessible through the TRUCONNECT Expert Module and the YourKonecranes portal for real-time performance monitoring.
“Having seen the ESP.10 in action in Brazil, ITI was confident in their choice. It’s a milestone to deliver the largest mobile harbor crane in Chile,” said Alfredo Canibano Ramos, Regional Sales Manager at Konecranes.
