Volvo Penta has partnered with power solutions provider e-power to deliver an advanced Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) tailored to the rental sector. The collaboration, aimed at supporting Boels Rental, one of Europe’s largest construction rental companies, highlights Volvo Penta’s BESS subsystem, a scalable, adaptable solution that allows for faster deployment and flexibility.

Boels Rental, a major player in equipment and tool rental across Europe, will integrate the BESS powered by Volvo Penta into its operations. The system, developed by e-power using Volvo Penta’s BESS subsystem, features a compact, high-density battery design that is transportable and ideal for rental applications. It provides reliable power for electric machinery and on-site needs, ensuring operational flexibility.

At the core of the system is Volvo Penta’s BESS subsystem, which includes battery packs, Battery Management System (BMS), DC/DC converters, thermal management, and communication interfaces. Its integration-ready architecture makes it easy for OEMs like e-power to tailor the system to specific customer requirements, enabling rapid adaptation.

“This collaboration accelerates our partners’ move towards sustainable solutions,” says David Hamilton, Volvo Penta’s industrial sales director for Northern Europe. Boels Rental, which has long used e-power generators powered by Volvo Penta engines, is committed to advancing its sustainability efforts. “We work with trusted partners like e-power and Volvo Penta for their proven performance and innovation,” says Davy De Wilde, Boels manager fleet & innovation.

For e-power, this project marks a step forward in meeting the growing demand for energy storage solutions that are silent, low-emissions, and compact—ideal for rental sectors and furthering electrification within the construction industry.
