Subsea 7 has been awarded a sizeable contract by Equinor to serve as the technical service provider (TSP) for the Northern Lights Phase 2 project, offshore Norway.
The contract scope includes engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of a five-kilometer CO₂ pipeline, along with integrated satellite structures, umbilicals, tie-ins, and pre-commissioning activities. Project management and engineering will begin immediately at Subsea 7’s Stavanger office, with pipeline fabrication set for Subsea 7’s spoolbase in Vigra, Norway. Offshore operations are scheduled for 2026 and 2027.
Erik Femsteinevik, Vice President for Subsea 7 Norway, expressed enthusiasm for the continued collaboration: “We are excited to work with Equinor TSP and the Northern Lights’ owners Equinor, Shell, and TotalEnergies on phase 2 of this pioneering project. Our goal is to increase carbon storage capacity to a minimum of five million tonnes per year and support the development of a new value chain for Norway and Europe.”
The Northern Lights Phase 2 project benefits from a grant under the Connecting Europe Facility for Energy (CEF Energy) funding scheme.
