DP World London Gateway has welcomed its first vessel under the new Gemini Cooperation, the alliance between global shipping leaders Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd.
The Maersk Stadelhorn arrived as part of Gemini’s ME2/IEX India-Europe service, departing the UK for ports including Hamburg, Tanger Med, Colombo, and Rotterdam. This marks a key milestone for Gemini, which launched in November to optimize East-West shipping routes and has already achieved 90% service reliability.
When fully operational, Gemini will manage 57 services globally, handling up to 3.7 million TEUs—nearly 12% of global container shipping capacity. The partnership will see vessels calling at both of DP World’s UK hubs, London Gateway and Southampton.
DP World executives celebrated the arrival, with Ernst Schulze, DP World’s Northern Europe Ports & Terminals Lead, highlighting London Gateway’s role in strengthening global trade. Maersk UK & Ireland MD Gary Jeffreys emphasized the network’s reliability and agility, while Hapag-Lloyd’s UK & Ireland MD Cameron Bowie underscored the Middle East and India trade growth.
This follows DP World Southampton’s first Gemini vessel call in February and recent expansions in India and Brazil, reinforcing DP World’s global reach. The company now operates in 78 countries, handling 10% of global containerized trade.
