Van Oord’s heavy lift vessel Svanen has successfully installed the first monopile at the Baltic Power offshore wind farm, 23 km off Poland’s coast. This marks a major milestone for Van Oord’s first offshore wind project in Poland.
Contracted by developers ORLEN and Northland Power, Van Oord will install 78 foundations, each consisting of a monopile and transition piece. The wind farm, featuring 15 MW turbines, will have a total capacity of 1.2 GW—enough to power 1.5 million Polish homes when completed in 2026.
Following a major upgrade, Svanen now has a 25-meter extended gantry crane, making it one of the largest heavy lift vessels globally. With a proven track record in the Baltic Sea, it has previously worked on projects like Danish Kriegers Flak and Baltic Eagle. The vessel’s capabilities ensure it is well-equipped for the growing scale of offshore wind installations.
