Ultranav Launches Fuel-Saving Trial with Signol

5/5 - (1 vote)

Ultranav is launching a six-month trial in collaboration with Signol, a behavior-change service designed to promote fuel-saving practices among crew members. This initiative, implemented across 19 vessels, is part of Ultranav’s broader strategy to reduce fuel consumption and lower emissions, aligning with its goal of achieving a zero-emission fleet by 2050.

Signol leverages behavioral science to engage crews in sustainable decision-making through a tech-enabled platform. The service delivers personalized goals, real-time insights into fuel consumption, and data-driven recommendations that highlight opportunities for efficiency. Crew members receive tailored advice based on their past actions, creating a more relevant and impactful experience. This approach has proven effective in reducing fuel use and emissions by 4-12% across various maritime clients.

The trial complements Ultranav’s ongoing sustainability efforts, including fleet optimization and environmental partnerships. Signol’s service has been customized for different vessel types to ensure maximum impact, addressing each vessel’s unique operational needs.

Bas Blaak, Ultranav’s Head of Energy Efficiency & Sustainability, emphasizes the value of Signol’s data-driven approach, stating, “Every tonne of CO2 saved matters. By motivating the crew to adopt small operational changes, we can make a significant difference.”

Harriet Hunnisett Johnson, Head of Maritime at Signol, highlights the benefits of data analysis combined with behavior change, noting that the tailored recommendations can maximize fuel-saving opportunities in diverse vessel contexts.

The trial forms part of a three-year partnership between Ultranav and Signol, with results to be evaluated for potential wider implementation after completion.
