Heavy transport specialist Mammoet has been contracted by Buss Ports to manage over 100 XL monopile foundations for RWE’s Nordseecluster A (Germany) and Thor (Denmark) offshore wind farms.
The Nordseecluster, with a capacity of up to 1.6 GW, is one of Germany’s largest wind energy projects, while Thor, at over 1 GW, is Denmark’s largest to date.
Mammoet will oversee the load-in, temporary storage, and load-out of 116 XXL monopiles at Buss Terminal Eemshaven in the Netherlands. The largest monopiles weigh 1,700 tonnes and are 96 meters long. Using Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs), Mammoet will move these components to storage dunes, ready for deployment in the North Sea.
Wouter Santen, Mammoet Project Manager, emphasized the complexity of handling large components for both projects at a single site. Buss Terminal Managing Director Marc Wegman praised Mammoet’s expertise in monopile handling and its role in planning.
The collaboration supports the development of two of Europe’s most significant offshore wind initiatives, furthering the transition to sustainable energy.
