Liebherr has announced delivery of two ship-to-shore (STS) container cranes to Port Newark Container Terminal (PNCT), further solidifying its position as a key partner in the US maritime industry.
Manufactured at Liebherr’s facility in Killarney, Ireland, these cranes are designed to meet the demands of PNCT’s operations, enabling the terminal to efficiently manage the next generation of ultra-large container vessels. With an outreach of 226 ft (69 m) and a lift height over rail of 175 ft (53 m), these cranes are built to handle larger vessels, increase throughput, and support growing global trade demands.
As part of PNCT’s $500 million expansion project, these advanced cranes will play a pivotal role in boosting capacity at one of the busiest ports on the US East Coast. Equipped with cutting-edge technologies, including electronic anti-sway and laser anti-collision systems, the cranes ensure safe, efficient, and seamless operations.
Declan O’Sullivan, General Manager Sales at Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd., highlighted the importance of the collaboration: “We’ve been delivering cranes to the USA for many years, and this ongoing partnership with PNCT reflects the trust our customers place in our engineering expertise. Our customizable designs and in-house manufacturing allow us to deliver tailored solutions that meet each terminal’s unique needs.”
PNCT President James Pelliccio expressed his enthusiasm for the delivery, stating: “Liebherr has consistently provided reliable, high-performance cranes. These new additions not only reinforce our capabilities but also position us to confidently meet the growing demands of global trade. They are a crucial step in our strategy to transform PNCT into one of the most advanced ports on the East Coast.”
Winston Ziegler, Head of Sales, Maritime Cranes at Liebherr USA, Co., emphasized Liebherr’s strong presence in the US: “Our local team of 35 professionals ensures top-tier support for every crane we deliver.
