DP World has announced a £1bn expansion of London Gateway, set to make it the UK’s largest container port within five years. The project will add two new shipping berths, bringing the total to six, and introduce a second rail terminal. The expanded port will handle more than 2 million TEU annually, boosting trade volume and resilience.

The plan includes creating 400 new jobs, adding to the 1,200 already employed, and will feature Europe’s tallest quay cranes. This brings DP World’s total investment at the site to over £3bn, transforming it into a key logistics hub.

DP World Chairman Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem said the expansion would strengthen the UK’s trade connections and supply chain resilience, while DP World UK CEO Ernst Schulze emphasized the port’s strategic location and infrastructure for future growth.

DP World currently operates key logistics services in the UK, including London Gateway, Southampton, and a broader European network, handling 10% of global trade.
