Hiab, a division of Cargotec, has landed a significant EUR 5 million order for loader cranes destined for use in offshore wind turbines. The order, recorded in Cargotec’s Q1 2024 bookings, is slated for delivery throughout the year.
The ordered crane model, HIAB SWP, is specifically tailored for servicing offshore wind turbines. These cranes, installed within the turbine nacelle, excel in various lifting tasks, from hoisting equipment from sea-level platforms to managing deliveries to the turbine’s helicopter pad, even in challenging conditions.
Artur Jaslowski, Global Product Manager for Loader Cranes Light & Medium at Hiab, expressed confidence in Hiab’s position as a trusted partner in the offshore wind sector, ready to provide support in the years to come.
The order reflects the booming offshore wind industry, driven by the increasing demand for renewable energy sources. According to the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), global offshore wind capacity reached 64.3 GW in 2022, with an annual addition of 8.8 GW. GWEC forecasts an average annual addition of 26 GW worldwide until 2027.
