Kalmar has finalized an agreement to provide Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam with two fully electric and eight hybrid straddle carriers for its ECT Delta terminal. This substantial order, recorded in Cargotec’s 2024 Q1 order intake, is scheduled for delivery by Q4 2024.
Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam (ECT) operates two container terminals along the North Sea coast of Rotterdam, capable of handling the latest ultra-large container vessels without restrictions. The ECT Delta terminal employs straddle carriers for truck loading and unloading operations on the land side, with Kalmar already supplying several straddle carriers to the terminal.
The acquisition of these new straddle carriers forms part of ECT’s fleet renewal initiative, aligning with its goal to achieve emission-free operations at both the ECT Delta and ECT Euromax terminals by 2035. ECT will be testing two different battery technologies in the electric straddle carriers.
The order includes Kalmar Insight coverage for all machines, providing performance management tools to translate data into actionable insights. For electrically powered machines, the Kalmar Insight Energy Module offers visibility into battery charge status, energy utilization, and key performance indicators related to charging.
Karri Keskinen, Head of Global Sales, Horizontal Transportation, Kalmar, expressed enthusiasm for the ongoing collaboration with ECT, emphasizing Kalmar’s commitment to supporting sustainable operations with eco-efficient straddle carrier technology. Keskinen highlighted the flexibility of Kalmar’s battery technology offerings, catering to diverse operational needs and reflecting strong market confidence in their eco-efficient solutions.
