Kalmar has inked a deal with CMA Terminals, a subsidiary of CMA CGM, to provide three Kalmar hybrid straddle carriers for SAMR, its terminal on Réunion Island. This significant order, registered in Cargotec’s Q4 2023 order intake, will see the machines delivered in Q4 2024.
Réunion Island is now designated as the strategic hub for the CMA CGM Group in the Indian Ocean. The group, a major global player in sea, land, air, and logistics solutions, solidified its commitment by establishing its Indian Ocean transshipment hub in 2016. Port Réunion has since risen to become France’s 4th largest container port. Presently, CMA Terminal operates numerous Kalmar diesel-electric straddle carriers at its terminal in the port.
Karri Keskinen, Head of Global Sales, Horizontal Transportation at Kalmar, remarked, “Kalmar and CMA Terminals have a long and successful history of collaboration. We are pleased that they have opted for our proven hybrid straddle carrier solution – known for its potential to reduce fuel consumption by up to 40% compared to equivalent diesel-powered machines – to facilitate their transition toward more environmentally friendly cargo-handling operations.”
