Avenue Building Corporation, a prominent Canadian builder, has strategically deployed the Raimondi LR273 luffing crane for a new residential high-rise development in downtown Toronto’s sophisticated Bloor Yorkville area. Recognized as one of Canada’s best-selling models for such developments, the LR273 proves its mettle, particularly in bustling metropolises like Toronto, where high-rise buildings are in high demand.

Jim Patullo, President of Avenue Building Corporation, emphasized the crane’s versatility and aptness for “zero lot line” projects, citing its out-of-service radius and internal climbing capabilities. The LR273 has previously been employed in the construction of the first Nobu Residences and Hotel in downtown Toronto, showcasing its compatibility with similar construction requirements.

Installed in February 2021, the LR273 boasts an 18-ton maximum lifting capacity, a 40-meter jib, and a 15-meter out-of-service radius with a tip load of 8.20 tons in UltraLift. Climbing off internally, the crane has scaled the 36-meter tower height over the past two years, reaching its final height of 167 meters above ground level. As the LR273 approaches the concluding stages of the project, the anticipated dismantling date is set for December 2023.

Patullo highlighted the crane’s ability to switch promptly from two falls to four falls and reverse, facilitating the lifting of large equipment without downtime. With an 86kW hoisting gear, the LR273 achieves a maximum lifting speed of 204 meters per minute and a drum capacity of 980 meters, ensuring excellent lifting performance and meeting project deadlines.

Avenue Building Corporation’s fleet includes seven Raimondi cranes deployed across various Toronto sites, and the success of the LR273 has prompted plans for two additional units in another key development in the city. Once completed, the 55 Charles Residences, a MOD Developments project, will contribute 665 residential units to central Toronto’s dynamic and ever-evolving skyline.
