The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) is celebrating a major milestone as it awards the concession contract for Container Terminal No. 2 in East Port Said Port to the Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT), majority-owned and operated by APM Terminals.
This comprehensive contract covers financing, design, development, management, and operation of the new terminal, supporting strategic projects. East Port Said Port, handling nearly 80% of Egypt’s container transit trade, ranked 10th globally for efficiency in 2022.
The new terminal, operational by 2025, will run on clean, renewable energy and employ advanced port equipment. It’s expected to create over 1,000 direct jobs and numerous indirect opportunities in Port Said, aligning with APM Terminals’ goal to be carbon-neutral by 2040.
The project, approved by SCZONE’s Board of Directors in September 2022, received its final approval from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in August, marking a significant advancement in enhancing port capacity and sustainability.
