Yara Marine secures 300th vessel contract for FuelOpt, an automated propulsion optimization system that helps shipowners reduce fuel costs and emissions while complying with regulations such as the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) and the Energy Efficiency Design Index for Existing Ships (EEXI).

After passing the milestone, Mikael Laurin, Head of Vessel Optimization at Yara Marine Technologies, said: “Having the trust of so many companies and vessel crews is priceless. With FuelOpt onboard, 300 vessel crews have the tools they need to achieve their green shipping goals while boosting their bottom line.”

FuelOpt, which was introduced in 2013, has revolutionized the way some of the most advanced ship-operators control propulsion, becoming a byword for direct and real-time fuel savings. Stolt Tankers, Teekay, Ardmore, Golden Ocean, and Algoma are among the companies that have benefited from the intelligent software and intuitive control that underpin the system.

FuelOpt, developed by Yara Marine, is an automated propulsion optimization system that bridges vessel control and propulsion machinery. It allows operators to focus on key vessel parameters while the software dynamically controls the propulsion output based on defined settings and changing environmental conditions. This results in steady and predictable shaft power, real-time fuel savings and emissions reductions, and enhanced operational safety. FuelOpt also acts as a dynamic tuning system for the propulsion machinery on vessels with a controllable pitch propeller.
