On the French Riviera, the Haliotis 2 has entered a key phase, with preparatory works underway on the seafront in Nice. Led by the Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur and Eau d’Azur, the future water treatment and recovery complex represents a total investment of €700 million.

The project, awarded to a consortium headed by SUEZ with the participation of FAYAT and VINCI, aims to modernise and expand treatment capacity for around 680,000 residents across 26 municipalities. Once operational, the facility is expected to play a major role in the region’s environmental transition, avoiding an estimated 15,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually from 2030.

Currently, teams from FAYAT Fondations are carrying out deep foundation works critical to site stability, located between the Promenade des Anglais and the runways of Nice Côte d’Azur Airport. The works include the construction of 82 diaphragm wall panels along the seawall to prevent slope failure in the event of an earthquake.

A Sennebogen 6113E telescopic crawler crane is being used to handle and install reinforcement cages at depths of up to 40 metres. Its ability to travel under load and operate across 360 degrees in confined conditions makes it particularly suited to the complex site.

Despite the proximity to the airport, operations are secured through dedicated systems, including a boom height limitation feature compliant with aviation regulations.

Haliotis 2 is emerging as a strategic project, combining technical innovation with significant environmental benefits for the region.
