Liebherr mobile harbour cranes lead orders

Rate this post

Liebherr reported a record share of global new orders for its mobile harbour cranes in 2025, reflecting strong demand for high capacity lifting solutions combined with evolving energy strategies.

According to the company, terminal operators increasingly favoured equipment that safeguards throughput and operating hours while supporting long term lifecycle planning. Heavy lift mobile harbour cranes remained central as ports expanded cargo profiles without investing in fixed infrastructure, while electric drive configurations gained traction for reducing local emissions without compromising performance.

Customer demand throughout the year focused on pairing high lifting capacity with credible electrification strategies. Electric drive options and retrofit pathways were increasingly integrated into fleet planning, alongside compatibility with varying grid conditions. At the same time, heavy lift capability remained essential for terminals handling steel, project cargo and oversized units.

Several projects highlighted these trends. Electric mobile harbour cranes at DP World Constanța in Romania supported multipurpose handling, combining container and heavy lift operations. In Türkiye, an electrically driven portal slewing crane improved bulk throughput at Nuh Çimento’s port, while an LHM 550 strengthened heavy lift capacity at BLG Logistics’ Bremerhaven terminal in Germany.

A key milestone was the delivery of Liebherr’s 2,000th mobile harbour crane, a customised LHM 600 supplied to Marcegaglia in Ravenna, Italy. Built in Rostock, the crane marked five decades of production and underlined the manufacturer’s long term partnerships with port operators.

With a solid order book extending into 2026, Liebherr expects continued investment as terminals prioritise reliability, efficiency and sustainable performance in daily operations.
