Chatière Works: Phase 1 Moves Forward

Rate this post

Phase 1 of the Chatière project is progressing with the successful removal of underwater obstructions within the footprint of the future breakwater. This follows earlier explosive ordnance detection and geotechnical surveys.

Ahead of the operation, updated bathymetric measurements were carried out to locate objects that could disrupt future dredging. The findings confirmed the presence of several obstructions, mostly concrete blocks from historic port structures destroyed over time, particularly during World War II.

The removal was carried out using adapted excavators operating both from land at low tide near the south breakwater of the historic port, and from the Ouistreham barge when required by sea conditions.

Clearing this area marks a key step toward the dredging phase, necessary to replace the unsuitable top sediment layer before the new structure can be built. The work has been conducted jointly by the TERELIAN / SDI consortium (DEME Group), Haropa Port as project manager, and the port authority to ensure uninterrupted port operations.
